Muhal Richard Abrams, world renowned pianist and composer, has been in the forefront of the contemporary music scene for over forty years. He is a co-founder of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). Afrisong was recorded in Chicago in 1975 by the Japanese producer Masahiko Yuh and gave Abrams the chance to display his instrumental facility and keyboard proficiency on this solo piano session, which often were overshadowed by his arranging, compositional and band leading skills.
