DVD 2008. Envy is influenced by late 80s and early 90s American hardcore and this Tokyo five-piece has pushed the genre to it's breaking point, combining the urgency of thrash with the tension and bombast of epic experimental rock. Over 15 years and five albums into their career, Envy have outlasted nearly all their peers and contemporaries. "Transfovista" is the first long-form video to document Envy's sound and vision. Presented here are 17 live performances, spanning a dozen years and countless pieces of murdered equipment.
Reviews:
To the new fan, this Japanese post-metal collective might come off like the Land of the Rising Sun's answer to Isis and Pelican. Actually, they've been doing their thing for over a decade, and this DVD is a gorgeous, thoughtfully assembled and loud-as-f*ck document to their strange trip. A pastiche of hundreds of shows, from open-air mountainside festivals to the dingiest of basement gigs, it tells the quintet's story without formal translation, in a succession of startling images.
