This is the story of Red Wortham's Bullet and Sur-Speed labels of the 1950 s and 1960 s. Bullet was one of the first and initially most successful of the post-war independent labels, but they were out of business by 1950. Red reactivated the Bullet label in the late 1950s and started the Sur-Speed imprint as a sister label in the early 1960 s. This reissue is a fascinating window into the rough and ready independent record world of the mid-20th Century. It's also a wonderful companion piece to the Grammy-winning "Night Train to Nashville" set as it features several of the same artists in the same time frame. None of this material has been available in the U.S. since it's initial release, and there are several previously unreleased tracks.
