Anchored by poignant songwriting and their intimate live shows, Mandolin Orange (Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz) has quietly and confidently found their audience. On February 1, they will release a new album, Tides of a Teardrop, through Yep Roc Records. Thematically this album is a release for Andrew Marlin, the group's songwriter. He lost his mother at a younger age, and although that has impacted his writing in the past, this collection of songs is thematically about letting go and finding peace. Marlin and Frantz were joined by their touring band and for the first time, took more than a few quick days between tour, to record the album. That level of comfort shines through in the band's most accomplished set of songs to date.
Gallipoli, Beirut’s fifth album, started life when Zach Condon returned to his old Farfisa organ, the same one he used to write his first two albums, Gulag Orkestar (2006) and The Flying Club Cup (2007). After stints writing and recording in both New York and Berlin, with time for Zach to recover from a broken arm factored in, band plus producer Gabe Wax (Speedy Ortiz, Soccer Mommy, Adrianne Lenker / Big Thief) headed to Puglia in Italy to finish the album. With the remote rural setting “the right amount of isolated”, an intense month of 12 to 16-hour days in the studio with day trips around the coastline followed. Inspired by the surroundings, Gallipoli is unintentionally more visceral than Beirut’s more recent albums, alive with an energy that is further enhanced by every creak and groan of their instruments, every detuned note, and all amp buzz and technical malfunction being left in the cracks of the songs.
Five, the new album from White Lies, sees the West-London trio scaling new creative heights with re-energized confidence. As the band explains: ''This is a mile stone record for White Lies. It marks our decade as a band, which has pushed us to expand our sound and reach new territory artistically - it marks the start of a new and exciting chapter for us'' The writing and recording process took in both sides of the Atlantic including a creative sojourn to Los Angeles where they worked on new material with old acquaintance Ed Buller - producer of two previous White Lies albums including the band's chart-topping debut To Lose My Life and third release Big TV. More complex and bolder than its four predecessors with the addition of personal and-at-times intimate lyrics of bassist and primary songwriter Charles Cave, Five provides a confident stride forward.
After 2 decades, WITHIN TEMPTATION is ready to break with the past. Following HYDRA in 2014, the 7th studio album ‘RESIST’ is a distinctive metal record that takes inspiration from our modern & future society and casts it into arrangements & dark melodies like you’ve never heard before. Armed with 10 anthemic tracks that consist of heartfelt melodies, bombastic drums and heavy wobbles, but also flawless collaborations with famous singers Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach) and Anders Fidén (In Flames).
Opaque Red Vinyl. After releasing 2016's critically acclaimed Apocalipstick, Cherry Glazerr spent the next 18 months touring the world on their own steam. Between DIY All Ages venues, rock clubs, large festival stages, and massive theaters with some of the world's best and most beloved bands (The Pixies, Flaming Lips, Slowdive, and The Breeders, among others), the band has really only stopped to work on their follow up, Stuffed & Ready. While furiously building the band's sound and ideas, front person Clem Creevy enlisted Carlos de La Garza to be the band's studio co-collaborator as they evolved the songs and refined the recordings.
The eagerly awaited album from Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt, ‘The Sun Will Come Up, The Seasons Will Change’ will be released on the February 1, 2019 through Cooking Vinyl. Having obtained over 100 million streams between singles since signing her new deal with Cooking Vinyl, the new album shows Nina at her lyrical and musical best.
‘The Sun Will Come Up, The Seasons Will Change’ has been three years in the making and bears no hint of compromise as Nina demonstrates her unique talent for acute lyrical observations and ear-worm melodies. Heralding a musical change of direction from Nina with more obvious pop influences, the album is a scintillating journey through a whole range of genres and moods.
Unloved is the trio of vocalist Jade Vincent, Keefus Ciancia (known for his collaborations with T-Bone Burnett, including the soundtrack to True Detective, and his unprecedented project with Jeff Bridges, Sleeping Tapes) and David Holmes (one of the world's most innovative DJs turned composer whose work includes Steven Soderberg's Ocean's Trilogy). Sharing a love for 60s' girl groups, French pop and film noir soundtracks, they have a sound at once hauled out of the silty depths of the past, and simultaneously wholly modern. Vincent's sublime voice and lyrics, possess an aching, rich-smoked tone of loss and love. Unloved's second full length record Heartbreak, was emboldened by its predecessor to be more emotionally exposed, more musically, lyrically, and vocally audacious. To enter the world of Unloved is to surrender oneself to a great musical immersion, where thoughts soften, ideas mingle with twisted mancini-esque orchestrations and music binds the dawn and dark.
Set It Off finds the perfect balance of rock & dark pop with their 5th record & Fearless Records debut 'Midnight.' Bringing back organic instrumentation & introducing a darker sound, Set It Off are able to bring their insane live energy to 15 new recorded tracks.
With their powerful harmonies and imaginative songwriting in full force, Girlpool are making new creative leaps with their new album, What Chaos Is Imaginary. Combining elements of shoegaze, folk, and 80’s postpunk with their own melodic gifts, these two great songwriters come up with a modern classic full of great tunes and sonic surprises. Impressive growth for this already celebrated band.
Every song that Aaron Sinclair writes has a certain underlying feeling. SPIN described it as 'twitchy paranoia.' Baeble Music sensed a 'strung-out urgency' in his voice, while the Austin Chronicle called his music 'tension-driven' with 'tight, rough riffs and sharp post-punk lines.' This is definitely apparent on A Sinclair's newest release 'Catpaws' our Feb 1st on Nine Mile Records. 'Catpaws' widens Sinclair's songwriting focus and brings a new level of focused energy to song craft and the most intensely rocking album of their career.
The Bright Light Social Hour is an American psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas. The band is composed of Jackie O'Brien (bass guitar/vocals), Curtis Roush (guitar/vocals), Edward Braillif (synthesizers/guitar), and Joseph Mirasole (drums.) Known for their incredible live shows, The Bright Light Social Hour has performed at major festivals including Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, in addition to their own international touring. They have received acclaim from KCRW and Huffington Post.
Running parallel to Daughter, Elena Tonra has assumed the pseudonym Ex:Re (pronounced ex ray) for her eponymously-titled debut solo album, a deeply personal record that was made with both a sense of urgency and a cathartic need. Tonra’s candid solo songs document the time after a relationship ended and are written like unsent letters to herself and others.
SOEN TO RELEASE THEIR FOURTH ALBUM, LOTUS, IN FEBRUARY 2019 Swedish-based progressive metal group Soen will purge themselves of their 4th album -Lotus- on February 1st 2019. Featuring nine pieces, Lotus is the latest in a line of aural therapies from the band, questioning much of today’s darkness as juxtaposed with moments of great escape and hope. The lotus flower has always been a symbol of the purity rising from muddy uncertainties, and with songs such as “Covenant”, “Rival”, “Martyrs” and the title cut all expressing perspectives of life’s darker moments, it was a natural title for this latest project. Produced by David Castillo and Iñaki Marconi at Ghostward Studios and Studio 6 between July and October 2018, the centre-point of the album remains those trademark, snap-heavy, progressive Soen riffs, while overall Lotus promises an exciting new chapter of skin-shedding, soul-searching journeys for all who dare to commit to the ride.
Two People. That’s it. No gimmicks, no irony. A name that reflects a lack of artifice in the music and vision of the people behind it: Phoebe Lou & Joey Clough, kindred musical spirits since they were 15. The improvisational element of the Melbourne duo’s album First Body gives it an unpredictable edge. This is electronic music made by humans. If there’s a lack of polish, it’s intentional, and their 1st single ‘I’m Tied, To You’ makes that clear. Available on vinyl 2/1 via Terrible Records.
Australian alt-electro pioneers Empire Of The Sun (Luke Steele & Nick Littlemore) celebrate the tenth anniversary of their multiple-ARIA-award winning debut album, Walking On A Dream, with the release of a limited-edition vinyl – including a gatefold, 180-gram heavyweight vinyl of Walking On A Dream on transparent blood orange vinyl, a unique code to download the previously unreleased track “Chrysalis,” and features the original artwork from the initial 2009 vinyl release.
Corey Cunningham's Business of Dreams is all about emotional catharsis. When his father passed away a few years ago, Cunningham took leave from his long-running Bay Area/LA musical partnerships Magic Bullets and Terry Malts to return to his home state of Tennessee to grieve and confront his past. Making music to cope with this loss resulted in Business of Dreams' lovely eponymous debut album, an unexpected pop pleasure that wound up on Bandcamp's and Raven Sings The Blues' year-end lists for 2017. Soon the live version of Business Of Dreams took shape as Cunningham opened for Rogue Wave on a national tour and played scores of local shows with Frankie Rose, Real Estate and many others. With his new album 'Ripe For Anarchy,' Cunningham has honed the songwriting with an eye towards regret, existence, and perseverance. 'When I'm gone you won't cry for me, focus on the moment, be free,' he sings on 'Chasing That Feeling.' And that's the mantra here: it's time to let go. "The album is about living in the moment, shedding neurosis, and the desire to discard the general societal malaise we've been roped into.' 'Ripe For Anarchy' is a through-and-through ode to indie pop, in the historic definition of the genre. 'My Old Town' and 'N.R.E.A.M.' could be album cuts on a Grant McLennan solo album, 'Don't Let Our Time Expire' and 'Naive Scenes' could be The Smiths, the Sparklehorse cover "The Hatchet Song' bears an uncanny resemblance to Australian pop pioneers Even As We Speak, and "I Feel Dread' has the unmistakable earmarks of The Field Mice. And while he may be more noted for playing guitar in Terry Malts, Smokescreens, and Merge Records' Mike Krol's backing band, Cunningham is most at home making soft sounds extolling the wounded and mournful. 'I think music is the most personal of mediums. You can work and listen, you can run and listen, you can drive and listen. And I think I'm a misfit. If I can make the most personal music for misfits, then I'm satisfied.'

LIVE IN HOLLYWOOD features amazing performances from a concert that Ronstadt recorded in 1980 for her acclaimed HBO television special. Recorded on April 24, 1980 at Television Center Studios in Hollywood, and produced by John Boylan, the concert captures Ronstadt at the peak of her reign as America’s most popular female rock singer. For LIVE IN HOLLYWOOD, Ronstadt selected 12 of her favorite performances from the original concert.
In concert, she was joined by an outstanding band that included guitarists Kenny Edwards and Danny Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel, bassist Bob Glaub, keyboardist Billy Payne (of Little Feat fame), pedal steel guitarist Dan Dugmore, and backing vocalist Wendy Waldman. Rounding out the band was Peter Asher – Ronstadt’s producer and the concert’s executive producer – who played percussion and sang background.
On stage, Ronstadt held the packed audience spellbound with powerful renditions of her biggest hits – “Blue Bayou,” “Poor Poor Pitiful Me” and “It’s So Easy” – plus an incredible, previously unreleased six-minute jam of her #1 smash, “You’re No Good.” The concert also showcased a trio of Top Ten hits from Ronstadt’s then-current album – Mad Love – with performances of “I Can’t Let Go,” “How Do I Make You” and “Hurt So Bad.” After its release in February 1980, Mad Love would become Ronstadt’s seventh consecutive platinum-selling album.
The Diamond Street Players, Atlanta, GA's modern equivalent of Stax, Motown, or Fame Studio's legendary in-house studio bands, follow up last year's mesmerizing "Living In Harmony" with two distinctive 7" sides, melding two different vibes of this versatile group of true soul/funk purveyors.Led by organist, writer and producer, Spencer Garn, The Diamond Street Players focus first on laying down gritty soul, funk and R&B tracks that more than hold their own instrumentally. Occasionally a track works out well for a lead vocalist, as is the case with the A-Side Million Miles, a smooth and soulful mid-tempo love-soul bender that brings forth remeniscenses of Al Green and Shuggie Otis. This cut features a collaboration with Amanda Joy, whos love for soul and gospel began at age 5 singing in church. A top graduate of the performing arts school she attended, she brings a powerfully soulful voice to the Diamond Street funk. The B-Side is quite another side, indeed, displaying one of those aforementioned "other vibes" of The Diamond Street Players. This edgy, raw and funky "Murky Retrograde" has already received dance floor approval from b-boys and b-girls nationwide--with early floor-filling spins from ATL to Portland, Oregon. But don't worry, it's not just this one side. You'll get a lot more from where that came from on DSP's upcoming spring 2019 full-length groove dish
Silver is Ilhan Ersahin's latest project and a bit of a departure from his other musical undertakings. A group consisting of himself on Rhodes keyboards and Tenor Saxophone, trumpet icon Eddie Henderson, bass legend Juini Booth and drums/percussion sorcerer Kenny Wollesen . Silver emphasizes on mood and tone . The 'bite-sized' approach of this ensemble translates as a string of 5-minute individual pieces .
